I am delighted to offer this range of Christmas cards celebrating the Black Lives Matter movement, with proceeds supporting the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust. The cards are available from my Etsy shop LovespangleDesigns at the link https://LovespangleDesigns.etsy.com
The cards feature images from my original series of paintings which challenge the seasonal stereotypes. Why can’t our angels take any guise? Why are they always blond? Why can’t icons represent the diversity we see in society?
2020 has been a rollercoaster for all of us, and if we have learned anything – it’s that we need to work together and support each other. Time (and sadly life) is far too short to put up barriers – good friends are hard enough to come by, without excluding companions for senseless reasons like colour or religion. We can easily find common ground if we try.
Let’s make this festive season a special one by reaching out, and finding new friends amongst the people who share our lives – whether strangers, classmates, neighbours or colleagues. Let’s find out what causes unnecessary hurt and offence, and make a change. Let’s speak out together, support each other, and try to see the world through different eyes. Our society needs to support and enrich us all, because there is so much human potential to be harnessed for good.
The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust works tirelessly to make the world a fairer place for everyone. It was set up following the tragic murder of Stephen Lawrence in a racist attack in 1993. The Trust works with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds aged 13 to 30 to inspire and enable them to succeed in the career of their choice. The Charity also aims to influence others to create a fairer society in which everyone, regardless of their background, can flourish.
As the Trust recognises “Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not”. By supporting the Charity, you will help to finance programmes designed to bring sustainable change to communities, schools, colleges and workplace environments. By tackling discrimination and providing inspiration, opportunities and support to disadvantaged young people, emerging talent can be nurtured and encouraged regardless of background.
We can’t change the past, but we can change the future!
Erica is a beautiful little girl, a contemporary icon surrounded by a halo of gold and walnut veneer. The original mixed media piece was designed in rich blues and reds. She wears a simple vest top with a beaded bag strap over her shoulder and she has flowers in her hair. The background is a midnight blue starry sky, which really makes the jewel-like colours stand out. She has a gentle and contemplative gaze.
Birdie is a wise old character, full of mischief but with the good sense that comes with experience. She has a halo of gold and grey maple. She wears a tweed coat with leather lapels and a hat which has seen many an adventure!
There are two ‘Erica’ designs and one ‘Birdie’
Available as a single card or in packs.
