The question that surrounds our Connecting People and Places Exhibitions, is what does heritage mean to you? If you take time to search the actual definitions you will see that there are three different answers. We think that is because heritage is open for interpretation, it means different things to individuals, depending on the cultures they grew up around, their location or the family they are surrounded by. We decided to ask our volunteers to define what heritage means to them.
We recently had a workshop with TJX – home to TK Maxx and Home Sense, where they educated our participants on top tips for LinkedIn. In the first half of our session with TJX, they showed us how to gain interest on your LinkedIn profile. We found that most of our participants had heard of LinkedIn and the majority having an account that was out of date. So if you are reading this, this is your sign to give your profile a spring clean.
This Spring we have commissioned poets, photographers and artists to be part of our Connecting People and Places Exhibition. Designed to increase recognition of how migrant and communities of diverse ethnic heritage have influenced heritage across England, our participants will depict what heritage is to them. Adelle A'asante an artist from Yorkshire, her work, entitled ‘Beans Hall’ is a comment on local building the Piece Hall in Halifax, commenting on her heritage and identity as a Black African woman in the UK.
