#TeamBlue2024 – Dan Bilsborough

Dan has been a long-time supporter of Blueprint for All, having previously taken part in The Big Half in 2021. We caught up with him to find out more about his training and fundraising journey.

Please tell us a bit about yourself. How did you first hear of Blueprint for All?

Hi, I’m Dan, an architect specialising in externals and landscape design. Originally from Leeds, I’ve lived in London for the last 5 years and this will be my debut at the London Marathon! I first learned about Blueprint for All at HTA Design, a residential architecture studio, and a charity partner. In 2021, HTA were seeking representatives to run the Big Half Marathon for Blueprint for All, I was delighted to volunteer and raise £510 for the charity.

Why did you decide to run the TCS London Marathon for Blueprint for All?

It was Blueprint for All’s ambition, and clear message to create a more equal society in which everyone can thrive that first caught my attention. It’s such a powerful and positive aspiration, particularly in today’s uncertain world and political climate. When my application to represent this charity at the TCS London Marathon 2024 was accepted, I couldn’t say yes quickly enough. I will be honoured to wear the Blueprint for All colours on the 21st April and graduate from Big Halves to the full TCS London Marathon!

How has your experience been with training?

Training for the marathon this year has been a positive experience so far. I’ve used the opportunity to explore new parts of London during my big runs and have just completed my longest run, thankfully without any serious injury! I actually enjoy the challenge of training. London life is busy and demanding, so it’s reassuring to have the routine of a training block to stay disciplined and grounded, knowing that you’re working towards an amazing day at the end of it all.

Do you have any advice for anyone who would like to take on a challenge for Blueprint for All?

My advice would be to do it without hesitation! The fundraising team is incredibly supportive, and I feel welcomed into the Blueprint for All community. At the beginning of the year, the Blueprint for All London Marathon runners were invited to do a park run together at Hilly Fields near the charity’s HQ. After the (very hilly) park run, we gathered at their new office space for cakes, a meet and greet with staff, and a presentation on how the money we raise will have a tangible impact on people’s lives. It was such an inspiring day, and really motivated me to give my all to the fundraising and training efforts and raise as much money as possible for such an incredible cause. If you’re lucky enough to have the opportunity to take on a challenge for Blueprint for All, please answer that call!
